Design Engineer
Job Description

  • Coordinate internally with engineers/drafters and the broader design team/consultants in the pursuit of successful projects
  • Attend meetings with Clients and design team members and represent as the point of contact
  • Responsible for performing specific tasks as a part of a broader design effort
  • Assist in the design of buildings varying in size, uses, and complexity
  • Work under the guidance of senior team members
  • Prepare construction drawings and the development of structural systems with a variety of materials
  • Prepare calculations to justify structural designs
  • Perform construction administration tasks, coordinate with construction professionals, perform site visits, review shop drawings, and answer RFI’s
  • Perform feasibility studies and conditions assessments
  • Establish project fees and track costs to maintain budgets and profitability
  • Track project schedules to meet design team commitments and exceed Client expectations
  • Review and provide quality assurance and control of deliverables
  • Draft proposals and review contracts

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of work experience in building structural engineering
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis/specialization in Structural Engineering
  • F.E. Certification (Preferred)
  • Relevant coursework in materiality: steel, concrete
  • Excellent communication and writing skills and ability to thrive in a team environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Relevant experience in project use types: healthcare, commercial, retail, industrial, civic, seismic retrofit, and/or residential
  • Relevant experience in materiality: steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and/or metal studs (in seismically active areas)
  • Competency in structural engineering design software: ETABS, RISA 3D, SAFE
  • Familiarity with codes and standards applicable to the design and construction of major building projects located in California
  • Excellent communication and writing skills and ability to thrive in a team environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
