Design Engineer
Job Description

  • Coordinate internally with engineers/drafters and the broader design team/consultants in the pursuit of successful projects
  • Attend meetings with Clients and design team members and represent as the point of contact
  • Responsible for performing specific tasks as a part of a broader design effort
  • Assist in the design of buildings varying in size, uses, and complexity
  • Work under the guidance of senior team members
  • Prepare construction drawings and the development of structural systems with a variety of materials
  • Prepare calculations to justify structural designs
  • Perform construction administration tasks, coordinate with construction professionals, perform site visits, review shop drawings, and answer RFI’s
  • Perform feasibility studies and conditions assessments
  • Establish project fees and track costs to maintain budgets and profitability
  • Track project schedules to meet design team commitments and exceed Client expectations
  • Review and provide quality assurance and control of deliverables

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of work experience in building structural engineering
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis/specialization in Structural Engineering
  • F.E. Certification (Preferred)
  • Relevant coursework in materiality: steel, concrete
  • Excellent communication and writing skills and ability to thrive in a team environment

Project Manager

Job Description

  • Work on project engineering and management of building infrastructure projects encompassing construction of new healthcare, institutional, residential, and commercial facilities, as well as seismic evaluation and upgrade of existing facilities
  • Perform structural engineering work relating to the design of new concrete, concrete masonry (CMU), steel, metal stud, light-frame wood, and mass timber structures
  • Perform seismic upgrades of existing facilities with a focus on complex nonlinear dynamic analysis using ETABS, PERFORM, and similar software
  • Conduct finite element modeling (FEM) using SAP2000 and other FEM tools to develop proprietary connections and conduct slab and foundation analysis
  • Collaborate with the Principal-in-Charge to select suitable materials, construction methods, and retrofit strategies
  • Develop structural engineering schemes to facilitate the adaptive reuse of existing buildings through structural retrofitting or resiliency assessments. perform analysis and design of structural systems for various building types and materials using relevant building codes and standards, including CBC, CEBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, ACI, AISC, NDS, and TMS
  • Use engineering software including RISA, EnerCalc, SAFE, and SpColumn for structural and seismic analysis; create data visualizations, reports, sketches, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations to effectively present findings
  • Produce contract documents including structural drawings and specifications
  • Formulate design criteria and prepare material testing and condition assessment reports (MTCAP) for seismic upgrades
  • Provide direction to design engineers and drafters on assigned projects, and mentor junior staff
  • Act as the primary contact for clients, contractors, architects, and other stakeholders on project-specific issues
  • Provide construction administration services including site visits to assess quality, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to specifications and standards
  • Perform design reviews throughout all project phases; maintain strong client relationships, address concerns, provide updates, and ensure expectations are met; coordinate regular contact with clients via direct calls, meetings and written reports to review current issues; write proposals for projects and additional services
  • Participate in management meetings to address office operations, discuss marketing and recruitment strategies
  • Develop proposals for additional services, present them to clients, and secure approval for any necessary scope changes
  • Oversee all aspects of project execution, ensuring that all deliverables are met within the agreed-upon schedule and budget
  • Create and update in-house structural analysis and design tools in collaboration with the rest of the team
  • Work alongside drafters and engineers to develop and update drafting standards.

Minimum Qualifications & Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or foreign equivalent plus 1 year of experience to include working on project engineering and management of building infrastructure projects encompassing construction of new institutional, residential, and commercial facilities, as well as seismic evaluation and upgrade of existing facilities
